FPF: Little Love Bug and the Heart of the Mitten

In honour of St Valentine’s Day, we looked for heart inspired patterns for Free Pattern Friday. We hope you’ll love them as much as we do!

Love Bug by Laura Kaltman

Who could go past this cute Little Love Bug? We certainly wouldn’t mind being bitten by this one! A great way to use up little scraps of yarn, the pattern calls for worsted weight yarn and a 3.5/4.0mm hook, but you could use any weight yarn you like and an appropriate sized hook. Just imagine a whole fleet of this little bugs drowning you in their love? Try different coloured versions for the different holidays! By the way, the instructions use American crochet terms.

The Heart of the Mitten by Drops Design

These stranded mittens are sure to warm your heart as well as your hands! The pattern uses 8ply/DK weight yarn in three colours: you’ll need about 100-150m of two colours (red and white), and only a small amount of the pink (or use more red!). There is only one size written (and this size is not specified!), but with a little gauge manipulation you could vary the size of these easily. This design is worked from a chart in stranded (Fair Ilse) knitting, with minimal written instructions for the cuffs, etc.

We hope you enjoy your Free Pattern Friday, and we wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day!
