FPF: Washing Day Blues, and Greens, and Pinks, and…

This week’s Free Pattern Friday celebrates the arrival in-store of fresh supplies of Soak, including the Ravelry-inspired special edition, Unleash. I thought I’d look for patterns inspired by washing, soaking, and laundry in general!

Foamies by Carey Huffman

For the crochet pattern, I have chosen the adorable Foamies by Carey Huffman – bath toy and washcloth in one cute package! Instructions are written in US crochet terms and include all three creations. A great way to use up some of those sport weight (or thicker) cotton leftovers, just make sure your stitches are close together (unless you want to lose your stuffing!). Don’t forget to use polyester filling for ease of washing/drying your Foamies, and be sure to use safety eyes or embroidery if these are for the little kids. See here for conversion to Australian/UK terms.

Gully Wash Socks by Charisa Martin Cairn

The nicely textured Gully Wash Socks by Charisa Martin Cairn are not as difficult to knit as they are beautiful to look at. Knitting socks from the toe up makes them easy to fit as you go, and if knit two at a time allows you to knit your pair without worrying about whether you have enough yarn to finish. The instructions are explained well, and full of useful links if you’re unfamilar with any techniques used. These socks use a magic loop cast, cabling without a needle, short row heel, and a stretchy bind off.

So put off your laundry and wash day blues, and start crafting!
