Kung Hei Fat Choy! Or in other words, Happy Chinese New Year! And can you guess from the title what this year is….?
That’s right, it’s the year of the Horse! To celebrate this, I have choosen two horse related patterns for Free Pattern Friday.
This children’s hat is too cute for words; I’m a little jealous! I’m sure that with some patience this could easily be made into an adult sized pattern. Knitted in worsted weight yarn, it is a quick knit, and with a little imagination you can customize this to look like your favourite My Little Pony. (I’m showing my age here, right?!?). If you need a reminder of the different Ponies and their colours, check out this List of Ponies.
As soon as I saw this bag it was love at first sight. The naive horse motif reminds me of South American/Andean workmanship. This bag is constructed using Tapestry Crochet, a technique I’m not familiar with, however the instructions are well written and thorough (American crochet terms are used). The instructions are for a bag 10 1/2” x 9 1/2” (without strap), or approximately 27cm x 24cm, although again instructions are provided for re-sizing. I’ll have to give this a try, and I have two perfect yarns for it in my stash: Saddle (a semi-solid mid-brown), and A Horse With No Name (a semi-solid tan/beige/cream). I think a nice rust red would set this off perfectly.
Enjoy the Year of the Horse, and here are Eight Things You (probably) Didn’t Know About the Year of the Horse 🙂
