Seeing as today is World Animal Day, I thought it fitting to feature animal patterns for Free Pattern Friday. Not just any animals, but true blue, dinky di creatures!
Toys are a great way to use up scraps of yarn. They are usually quick and easy to make, and they’re handy to have a couple ready for that urgent baby gift or charity fete (please check the copyright on any pattern before making for charity/sale!). Also, make sure there are no small bits that children/animals may be able to remove and choke on; consider embroidering any features 🙂
This cute little creature is a knitting pattern by Raynor Gellatly, adapted from a crochet pattern. Whilst it uses 8ply/DK weight yarn, any weight yarn could be used; just choose a needle size that knits up a firm fabric (else the stuffing will fall out!). It’s amazing how you can change the expression of the koala depending on where you place it’s ears.
This crochet pattern is by Jennifer Ramirez of The Sun and The Turtle. Using 10ply/worsted/aran weight, this little platypus could be made in a couple of hours! Why not make a “paddle” of platypodes this weekend?!
